He spoke in the presence of his brothers and the wealthymen of Samaria and said, `What are these feeble Jews doing? Are they going to restoreit for themselves? Can they offer sacrifices? Can they finish in a day? Can they revive the stones from the dusty rubble even the burned ones?` (NASB)

^{尼 4:1} 参巴拉听见我们修造城墙，就发怒；大大恼恨，嗤笑犹大人。 ^{尼 4:2} 对他弟兄和撒玛利亚的军兵说：“这些软弱的犹大人作什么呢？要保护自己吗？要献祭吗？要一日成功吗？要从土堆里拿出火烧的石头再立墙吗？” ^{尼 4:3} 亚扪人多比雅站在旁边，说：“他们所修造的石墙，就是狐狸上去也必跐倒。” ^{尼 4:4} 我们的　神啊！求你垂听，因为我们被藐视；求你使他们的毁谤归于他们的头上，使他们在掳到之地作为掠物。 ^{尼 4:5} 不要遮掩他们的罪孽，不要使他们的罪恶从你面前涂抹；因为他们在修造的人眼前惹动你的怒气。 ^{尼 4:6} 这样，我们修造城墙，城墙就都连络，高至一半，因为百姓专心作工。 ^{尼 4:7} 参巴拉、多比雅、阿拉伯人，亚扪人，亚实突人，听见修造耶路撒冷城墙，着手进行，堵塞破裂的地方，就甚发怒。 ^{尼 4:8} 大家同谋要来攻击耶路撒冷，使城内扰乱。 ^{尼 4:9} 然而我们祷告我们的　神，又因他们的缘故，就派人看守，昼夜防备。 ^{尼 4:10} 犹大人说：“灰土尚多，扛抬的人力气已经衰败，所以我们不能建造城墙。” ^{尼 4:11} 我们的敌人且说：“趁他们不知不见，我们进入他们中间，杀他们，使工作止住。” ^{尼 4:12} 那靠近敌人居住的犹大人，十次从各处来见我们说：“你们必要回到我们那里。” ^{尼 4:13} 所以我使百姓各按宗族，拿刀、拿枪、拿弓，站在城墙后边低洼的空处。 ^{尼 4:14} 我察看了，就起来对贵胄、官长，和其余的人说：“不要怕他们，当记念主是大而可畏的。你们要为弟兄、儿女、妻子、家产争战。” ^{尼 4:15} 仇敌听见我们知道他们的心意，见　神也破坏他们的计谋，就不来了。我们都回到城墙那里，各作各的工。 ^{尼 4:16} 从那日起，我的仆人一半作工，一半拿枪、拿盾牌、拿弓、穿铠甲(“穿”或作“拿”)，官长都站在犹大众人的后边。 ^{尼 4:17} 修造城墙的，扛抬材料的，都一手作工，一手拿兵器。 ^{尼 4:18} 修造的人，都腰间佩刀修造，吹角的人在我旁边。 ^{尼 4:19} 我对贵胄、官长，和其余的人说：“这工程浩大，我们在城墙上相离甚远， ^{尼 4:20} 你们听见角声在哪里，就聚集到我们那里去。我们的　神必为我们争战。” ^{尼 4:21} 于是，我们作工，一半拿兵器，从天亮直到星宿出现的时候。 ^{尼 4:22} 那时，我又对百姓说：“各人和他的仆人当在耶路撒冷住宿，好在夜间保守我们，白昼作工。” ^{尼 4:23} 这样，我和弟兄仆人，并跟从我的护兵，都不脱衣服，出去打水也带兵器。 (和合本 CUV)

^{Neh 4:1} But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews. ^{Neh 4:2} And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned? ^{Neh 4:3} Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall. ^{Neh 4:4} Hear, O our God; for we are despised, and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity, ^{Neh 4:5} And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee, for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders. ^{Neh 4:6} So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof, for the people had a mind to work. ^{Neh 4:7} But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth, ^{Neh 4:8} And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it. ^{Neh 4:9} Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them. ^{Neh 4:10} And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall. ^{Neh 4:11} And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease. ^{Neh 4:12} And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you. ^{Neh 4:13} Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows. ^{Neh 4:14} And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them, remember the LORD, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses. ^{Neh 4:15} And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work. ^{Neh 4:16} And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah. ^{Neh 4:17} They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon. ^{Neh 4:18} For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me. ^{Neh 4:19} And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another. ^{Neh 4:20} In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us, our God shall fight for us. ^{Neh 4:21} So we laboured in the work, and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared. ^{Neh 4:22} Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day. ^{Neh 4:23} So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.
